Matter in Motion and the Mysticism of Nature´s Colour

In the book “Matter in Motion and the Mysticism of Nature´s Colour- the Art of Jeanette Schäring” we are presented to a unique body of work, combining traditional knowledge of dyeing with plants, environmentalism and contemporary artistic research. By foregrounding the processual character of natures colours rather than focusing on the practical uses of pigments and fibres, Schäring opens her work to a contemporary discussion involving new-materialist thinking, theories of thinking, language and interspecies communication as well as ethical reflections on gender, human rights and just sharing of the worlds resourches. In Schärings art the colours produced through the complex interaction of plants, water and bacterial fermentation becomes a language indicating both water quality, bacterial activity and how the plant has been growing, thereby translating a kind of Earthly fundamental language to our human perception.
The book is the second issue of the 284 Publishers series Co/Co-, Coevolution Concept. The aim of the series is to broaden our perspectives about living on Earth and discuss it as a continual practice of co-habiting and co-involving as part of a multi-species network. Jeanette Schärings book is the first book in the series to acknowledge the multi-layered importance of relating to plants, and as such rise philosophical questions even about the nature of light and distribution of clean water.
The book is speckled with essays by writers from four continents:
Jeanette Schäring, (artist, Sweden / New Zealand) Pooja Kaul (PhD Philosophy, India) Heather I Sullivan (Professor of modern languages, ecocriticism, USA) Ingmar Meland (PhD philosophy, Norway) Ida Bencke (poet, ecocriticism, Denmark/Germany) Jonas Bergquist (Professor neuro chemistry and analytical chemistry , Sweden) Fröydi Laszlo (artist, editor Sweden/Norway) and Frida Arnqvist Engström (journalist, Sweden. Engström´s essay is in Swedish )

Antennae- A Decade of Art and the Non-Human: 07-17

Since 2007, Antennae: The Journal of Nature in Visual Culture has been the international reference point of the non-human turn in the visual arts. This new book gathers the richest interviews and the most thought-provoking essays featured over its forty installments thus far published -- it captures the first ten years of a truly historic moment in contemporary art and philosophical thinking.
The non-human turn, which has so pronouncedly characterized the cultural discourses of the new millennium, is most definitely going to shape the course of our troubled future with the planet. Featuring the voices and work of some of the most influential artists and scholars involved in the subject of the non-human and visual cultures, this collection is an unorthodox reference point, a verbatim account of the main ideas and movements, and an archive of original documents indispensable to tracing the intersections and origins of anthropogenic discourses.
Throughout its history Antennae has been a cornucopia of sensuous seeing, writing, making, thinking, and reading, where nonhuman critters and people come together in terror and joy. Antennae Ten is replete with quirky, generative engagements with many of the most influential figures in the last 10 amazing years of irreverent, passionate, ethically brave, artfully innovative work for and with the critters of terra, living and dead. My hope for partial healing, even flourishing, for our damaged world lies in the contact zones of artists, activists, and critters. Antennae is such a contact zone. The politics demand the cultivation of the capacity to respond; the visual arts and the writing tune the mindsoulbody to care effectively outside the traps of human exceptionalism. --  DONNA HARAWAY

Elefanten & jag - en flugas betraktelser i psykosvården

Artist book av Marie Bondeson ( text &layout)
IBSN 978-91-979822-9-0

"In our often belated attempts to steward, care for or ‘repair’ environments – when individual animals and animal populationas are transformed from beings and societies into data, what of consequence is really captured – and importantly, what is lost?
The project investigates tensions and cooperation among scientific, public, and corporate stakeholders in how we have managed the wilds and the public lands. As the artists capture the complexity of human groups each vying for their ideas about the future of endangered species, the art work becomes a figure for the larger difficulty of realizing any sustainable future. Who is included in the future and at what cost?"
